Mossmelon. Clearwater plant, long stemmed. Buoy-like mossy fuzzy melons. Very smelly and unpleasant. The stems are slimy and loose, but strong like ropes. Grow mostly in lakes and slow-moving rivers. Grow in smaller ponds, but are much smaller. Cause a nuisance when long stems tangle up in boats. Inedible to most things except insects and small water creatures, who feed and lay eggs in the flowing green hair on the pods. Birds and fish eat the insects that flock to the plants, which attracts hunters and predator species to these locations. The stems can live for years, but each year the pods come and go, detaching and sinnking to the bottom when they die. They are filled with seeds, which redistribute and relocate on currents. Some hunters drain the pods and press the seeds to make a potent oil used to attract various animals...
