Duroar

Category: Plant | Years: 0 – 0

Plant. Desert plant. Tehse are plants with broad, long, waxy, shiny, blade like leaves that come from a central core like a starburst. They grow to be two tessadren tall, with the core growing to be around one ten in diameter. Red flowers grow on the tips of some leaves. These plants trick small animals by appearing to promise water, when in fact these plants require very little water. These plants also provide a very seductive amount of cools shade for animals. The red flowers also help attract insects. However, these plants are highly carnivorous. The core of the plant is a purple, fleshy body made up largely of a large mouth, quick jaws, and thousands of tiny teeth. Rodents, insects, small birds, and lizards who wander into the shade of a duroar are likely to be snapped into its jaws and dissolved with acid that immediately flushes into its purple stomach-body. When duroars happen to sprout close to mountain locations, if they are within range, Sinquahiagu (cliff eagles) have been known to eliminate them as competition, either by tearing them apart with their talons, pulling out the top leaves and exposing the fragile purple flesh to the desert sun, or by exposing the core to the sun by flipping them. Duroars live for about eight or nine garalel, and use insects to pollinate their flowers. Duroar is a symbol of seductive danger, a common symbol in art and politics. There are legends of one giant Duroar, that was the first Duroar, and continues to live somewhere. The legend says all Duroar came from this one, and instead of attracting small animals and insects it seduces people and large animals. An empty town discovered in the southwest range of the red mountains added fuel to this story. In actuality there was a giant duroar south of the town, and it did eat everyone in the town. A duravian traveling south during the Exodus found a duroar, then a simple flower, and used her power to make it move and grow. She wanted it to guard the passage from any following marauders. Instead it worked its way into the mountains trying to get to the big desert on the other side. However, it became lodged in a narrow valley and couldn't move any more. There it grew to enormous size. It lured the doomed villagers. Then it sat mostly alone without food for many years. Criminal organizations brought people there for it to eat. From this plant all other Duroars came. Marabeau sent forces to do away with the duroar. It was a large symbolic terror linked to criminals he wanted to destroy, undermine, and weaken during his reign. They found it, and with help from Quantavians caused a rockslide which crushed the giant plant. Its almost 700 year reign finally came to an end. Varieties: Common Duroar, Yellow Duroar
